EXODUS 3:14
And God said to Moses, I Am Who I Am and What I Am, and I Will Be What I Will Be; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you!
We enter the timeline when Moses was literally talking to a burning bush. God had just told him He had need of him. He needed Him to free an entire group of people from slavery. Can I pause here for a split moment… Moses was in this place because he killed an Egyptian for hurting a Hebrew, sometimes our visions are not big enough. Moses saw 1 man he wanted to help; God saw an entire nation he could help… So, boom, Moses has some great questions for God, “Who am I,” “What will I say,” this is one that I am here for today, “If they ask, who do I say sent me?” God’s response was so BIG! He said, “I AM WHO I AM AND WHAT I AM AND I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE.” Why is this so profound? In a culture like the Egyptian culture, they believed in different deities who held specific characteristics and only held “dominion” over certain parts of life. When God said, “I AM,” He was identifying Himself as having full dominion over all things. He made known that His power went beyond what they knew, and He invited them in to see His eternal nature.
REVELATION 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
God is the self-sufficient, self-sustaining God, who was, who is, who will always be. John 8:32 says, you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. He allowed His love and His truth to be the key to free the stronghold of slavery from His people. Have you allowed the truth of who God is, to come and set you free? God has always desired for us to know Him. Will you allow His fullness to come into your heart and shake everything?
